From a layman's perspective, I have tried to answer this basic question. I have not used much of technical specifications in justifying the reasons. It is a personal perception and surely differs from yours. So, before I get into the question of answering this question, lets first answer this -
Why I wanted to buy iPhone 5?

- The super sensitive touch screen and an ultra fast iOS
- It is a sort of style statement even today but it is deteriorating
Why would I want to buy a Nokia Lumia 920 over an iPhone 5?
- Ultra fast Windows 8 OS - the concept of tiles is more appealing to me
- 1.5 GHz Dual Core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor - Nokia has always made phone that had an excellent hardware design but always lacked a good processor
- Qi Wireless Charging - Something innovative and for the first time
- Nokia Music Unlimited - One complete year of free music downloads
- Lifetime Free Offline GPS - It is a first time in any mobile phone that you can use GPS without any data connection
- Most sensitive touch screen such that you can also use the phone with your gloves on
- Unmatched Camera Quality with PureView
- Having used Nokia N8 for the last 2 Yrs, Nokia phones happen to be the most robust phones in the world
- Price will always be less that what the same configuration iPhone 5 would cost
